Where I go, when I go... WLC-07

Pinellas County Florida has a preserve called "Mobbly Bayou Preserve" that they are sharing development with several other entities. The most active and domineering is the City of Oldsmar Florida that has turned the north end of the PRESERVE into a groomed city park. Their effect spread out into the nature walk, where they are dumping tree cuttings- not a compost or mulch pile- but a dozen piles of "Back the truck up along the nature path and dump the tree branches here" piles.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection, one of the silent partners in the RESTORATION plan, has started an inquiry after a (only one ?) concerned citizen contacted the governors office. The County is now going back to the restoration plan, posted on the web (Search Mobbly Bayou Restoration Plan) which is an awesome WRITTEN plan, but was apparently not followed too far or too closely since written early in the last decade.

Will Holcomb has a photo album of the preserve on his facebook page. The city built a concrete sidewalk without an engineering study...it is too close to the edge due to wave and tidal action, and dangles out over the water at the end...with no barrier or support.

Speaking of facebook, check out the "Backwoods Institute for Wilderness Safety" and the "William Greenfield Center for Environmental Stewardship" facebook pages.  The Thunder Bay Amateur Radio Club has some weather related stuff from time to time, as they are SKYWARN weather watchers.

JOKE: Storm Chasers chase storms, but storms chase SKYWARN spotters.
(SKYWARN SPOTTERS don't chase, they report and take cover.)
